Latest memorable event- Leadership camp last weekend. *sigh* I'm still in a daze from it. (If this entry is ridden with typos, not my fault. Okay, so maybe it is, but I can't type well when functioning on 10 hours of sleep total since friday.)
That's what going to camp does to ya...
Memorable moments:
- The girls' dorm blasting "Hey Ya" by Outkast at the wee hours of the morning and the spontaneous dance party.
- Campfire fun of mocking Richard Simmons, Jay-Z and my principal, Mr.Baytor (isn't that the greatest name ever??)
- Sappy, very leadership-typical singing of "Let It Be" at campfire, swaying and group hugs and all.
- Crowd surfing. More rock-concert appropriate than Leadership camp, but still soooo fun.
- Very violent "prom date" game. I still have rug-burn marks on my elbows.
- Trying to teach the boys how to hula hoop. I have never seen anything that funny, EVER.
- Luau party at dinner. After that, coctail-paper-umbrella fights.
- My Relationships- Love and Friendship seminar. Was so nervous before, but me thinks I beasted it! Or rather, me hopes...
- Warm fuzzies galore.
- Our lunch table having our hands tied to each other. Never ever, EVER again shall I attempt to get seconds while attached to 6 other people. Fried chicken is surprisingly good at flying long distances when flung off a plate.
- The absolutely random Spanish theme prevailing throughout the weekend. Its all Adam's fault, he started it off with his "Knights, Horses and Cavaliers...a game that took its roots in the early days of leadership in medieval...uh..Spain".
That spawned Spanish man-eating dragons, spanish second chances, spanish dance parties and a whole ton of other spanish things. Ideas have a weird way of spawning into realities at L.C.
- Ainsley's morphing of the Warm Fuzzy story into the Sexual Favour story. Not as disturbing as it sounds, but certainly side-splitting funny.
- The Exec bonfire at 2 am
- The Night Hike and the Solo Walk at night...seeing the meteor.
- Being woken up by very, very ear-splitting trumpet rendition of the Star Wars theme.
Gah, that was long...sorry y'all, but i just wanted to some memories down, before they fade away.

Time...where are youuuu???
|
I just realized that it would be so very wonderful if days lasted 28 hours instead of 24. That would give me time to actually do everything I planned to /was supposed to.
I thought I'd post only relevant issues here, but I guess not. Changed my mind, time for relevant is later, not now. Now is time for some venting and destressing.
All teachers have a conspiracy against students. One week would be so relaxing and work-free...and then, BAM! For a whole month straight nothing but tests, assingments, all due at the same time...I currently have 3 ongoing projects, all due within 2 days of each other, and 4 looming tests in the very near future. 3 of which are on the same day.
I wouldn't be surprised if all the teachers got together in the staffroom at the end of the day, to compare schedules and to plan major things on the same day...
I'm not the procrastinator sort of person, (though that does happen occasionally...maybe even a bit more often then occasionally), but even for me this is crazy. A steady work load is good...projects are all in good fun, but THAT MUCH!?
Gah! They say grade 11 is the hardest year in high school...they being everyone in the older grades. Right now i am ready to believe them.
Alright, enough with the distractions...have to go do some (more) work.
Ciao to all

Politeness, or lack thereof...
|
*Sigh* Is it just me, or is there a sad lack of politeness in this world? People just stopped being courteous.
Well, actually, I take that back...some people I still very much polite, but its the others that rather bother me. And, what I mean by not being polite doesn't necessarily mean that they don't say "sorry" or "excuse me" or "thank you"...its the WAY that it is said.
Here's a scenario, which occured today:
Me: *going down the stairs to the subway station, minding my own business...*
Man with briefcase: *skips down stairs briskly (not necessarily in the school-girl way, but in a very "I am in a businesslike hurry" way)*
*accidently hits me with the briefcase in the process*
Sorry (This said is a gruff, clipped way...as though iw as the one bumping into him*
Me: Its alright
Man with Briefcase: Hmph
Me: *shrug*
Okay, that in itself is an occurence common enough...and I wouldn't have noticed it, really, if this following thing didn't happen:
Me: *standing in subway train, reading some amusing ads on the walls*
Curly-haired Woman: *walks by me, and brushes by me so hard in the process, that I almost lose my balance*
Sorry
*glares*
Me: Its alright...*quizzical look*
I don't know why, but having two people act like that in a row irked me. I mean, if you bother saying "sorry", maybe it will help if you act like you ARE sorry...maybe thats just me, but that's kinda the whole point of it, don't you think?
The same goes for "excuse me", "thanks"....being polite does not encompass merely saying the words... Just because you say thanks, it doesn't make you polite if you say it in a voice that is far from thankful.
Schools, work places, streets, city transport- everything would be better, if only politeness was heeded a bit more.
I probably sounds so preachy and condescending right now, even though I dont mean to. I will admit, that sometimes I am guilty of being fakely polite, too...if I had a bad day and I bump into someone, its hard to say sorry in a sorry way...or to be thankful for something, when you'd much rather not be.
But the problem is, for a lot of people what kind of day they had, or any other more or less excusable reason, doesn't play any factor. And THAT is what is sad...what makes me a bit scared for the human race.
So, that is my rant for the day.
Anyone who has any thoughts to share on this subject, feel free to reply

Watched "Gallipoli" today in English...*sniffle* Puts history in perspective, that it does. How many people died in the two world wars, combined? Over 80 million...correct me if i'm wrong though. So awful. This movie makes you think about things like that, darn it!
What are your legs? Springs, steel springs. What are they gonna do? They're going to hurl me down the track. How fast can you run? As fast as a leopard. How fast are you gonna run? As fast as a leopard. Then let's see you do it!"
